Mad Hatter Goblet

NZ$210.00

Alice in Wonderland Goblets are made using a Pate de Verre method - this is like a glass paste which, when fired, gives a sugary kind of texture. Pate de verre is not transparent like other glass art methods, but can be translucent. Alice Goblets are ornamental and not functional.

The Mad Hatter is one of the members of the Mad Tea Party. He is often very rude and enjoys provoking Alice at regular intervals!

The phrase ‘mad as a hatter’ was common in Carroll’s time and probably owes its origin to the fact that hatters actually did go mad, because the mercury they used sometimes gave them mercury poisoning.

Mad Hatter goblet is orange and blue with a bit of white on the underside - and he has holes in his hat!

9 cm diametre top x 13 cm high with a 7.5 cm round base.
