Tiger-lily Goblet
Alice in Wonderland Goblets are made using a Pate de Verre method - this is like a glass paste which - when fired - gives a sugary kind of texture. Pate de verre is not transparent like other glass art methods, but can be translucent. Alice goblets are ornamental and not functional.
Tiger-lily was the first flower Alice met when she came upon a large flower-bed with a border of daisies around it. After the discovery that the flowers could speak and shrill loudly, Alice asked Tiger-lily how it was that the flowers in the gardens could talk:
“Put your hand down, and feel the ground” said the Tiger-lily. “Then you’ll know why.”
Alice did so. “It’s very hard,” she said, “but I don’t see what that has to do with it.”
“In most gardens,” the Tiger-lily said, “they make the beds too soft—so that the flowers are always asleep.”
This sounded a very good reason, and Alice was quite pleased to know it. “I never thought of that before!” she said.
Tiger-lily goblet is pink and white with a charcoal larynx, and stands 14 cm high with a 9 cm diametre top and a 7.5 cm round base
